Getting Your Invoicing Ready for Q4
Share this post:

Q4 is decided in September

The holiday crunch feels like a weather event, but it's really a calendar. Clients spend their remaining budgets in October. November goes quiet-ish. Late December vanishes entirely, while everyone demands everything be "wrapped up before the break." Businesses that end the year well are the ones that spent September setting it up.

The September short list

  • Chase the aged invoices now. Every unpaid invoice over 30 days becomes twice as hard to collect after mid-December. Start the polite escalation this week.
  • Send quotes for budget-spend projects. Many clients have use-it-or-lose-it budget before year end. A quote in their inbox in early October catches that wave.
  • Book your own December. Decide now which weeks you're working, and put the dates in your email signature and out-of-office. Clients plan around stated availability. They fill unspoken ones.
  • Get your books current. Reconcile through August so year-end is a formality, not a January nightmare.

Price the season in

If you take holiday-rush work, price it like rush work. If December is historically dead, sell the antidote. January start dates, early-bird retainers, prepaid packages. Cash in December for work in January is a legitimate and wonderful thing.

None of this needs a big system. It needs a free afternoon and your invoice list. Filter by overdue in SimplyQuote, work top to bottom, and Q4 becomes the quarter that pays for your holidays instead of eating them.
